Income Tax Clinic Volunteer Tax Preparer

WoodGreen hosts an annual Income Tax Clinic, in collaboration with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and arranges for volunteers to prepare income tax and benefit returns for eligible individuals who have a modest income and a simple tax situation.  Last year alone, we served close to 6000 clients, which returned approximately 7 million dollars into the pockets of our community members.

 

Commitment:

Availability from March 2018 through May 2018, available Monday to Saturday. We ask that volunteers commit 2 half-day shifts per week.

This year, we are looking for reliable volunteers to help with booking client's appointments (both live calls and returning phone messages), maintaining our database of appointments on a daily basis, and to assist the clinic by overseeing the flow of the lobby and client sign-in during their scheduled appointment times.

 

Commitment:

Availability from mid-January 2017 through June 2017, available Monday to Friday. We ask that volunteers commit 2 half-day shifts per week.

WoodGreen’s Walk-in Counselling Service

The WoodGreen Walk-in Counselling Service is an innovative program that offers free, no restrictions counselling to all members of the community on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 4:30 to 8:30 pm at 815 Danforth Ave. The counselling that is offered is brief, strengths-based and solution-focused; our approach is client-centered, collaborative, competency-based and pragmatic. All of our counselors are registered professionals (e.g. Social Workers, Psychotherapists); some are WoodGreen staff and some are volunteers.  Given the demand for our services we are currently looking to expand our team of Walk-in Counselors.

 

Requirements for the role:

  • Clinically trained, registration with a Regulatory body 
  • Minimum of 1 shift per month (although more is recommended) on Tuesday or Wednesday evening for a period of at least 12 months
  • Theoretical knowledge and well developed counselling skills 
           

Friendly Visiting - Brighten Someone’s Day & Make Them Smile – it takes only an hour!

Flexible times & locations - We are in desperate need of Friendly Visitors! As a Friendly Visitor, the one hour a week you spend visiting & spending time with an isolated senior provides much-needed companionship & social support. If you can spare an hour a week, your gift of time will go a long way towards reducing their loneliness and improving their quality of life. Volunteers need to commit to a 6 month time period, enjoy being with seniors and listening to their concerns. Being consistently reliable is a key attribute of this position.       

 

Meals On Wheels (MOW) – urgent need for Drivers & Runners – your local community is counting on you!

 

Weekdays from 11am to 1pm
Can you spare just 2 hours a week to help your hungry neighbours? WoodGreen Meals On Wheels desperately needs volunteer Drivers and Runners to deliver hot and nutritious meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities living right in your community. Make a tremendous difference in their lives and be a major part of dozens of lives of those who need our help on a daily basis. Be a very valued member of our MOW volunteer team, help us put a smile on a lonely senior’s face, one at a time by keeping those meals rolling!

 

Runners must be able to lift food containers (approximately 15 pounds).

Drivers must have own vehicle & a valid driver’s license. Reimbursement is provided for both Drivers & Runners.

We desperately need several Drivers especially in this program as soon as possible, and ask for a minimum 3-month commitment please.    
 

Interpreters for Immigrant Services

WoodGreen Community Services is committed to assisting Syrian refugees in their efforts to integrate into Canadian society and in the creation of a welcoming and culturally sensitive environment.

Medical Escort for Seniors

 

Going to the doctor can be a daunting when you’re elderly and have mobility challenges. It can also be a bit scary or worrying too. As a Medical Escort, you’ll provide a valuable service by accompanying seniors from their home to their medical appointments, ensuring their safety while out to the appointment and going back home.

Volunteers should be willing to commit in the daytime and be flexible with scheduling and locations. Some seniors may have varying disabilities; training and transportation costs will be provided to volunteers. 

 

Community Connections - Professional Mentors

Evenings, weekends, flexible time

This program matches newcomers with volunteers who are familiar with Canadian culture, values, workplaces, and everyday life. Professional Mentorship is a key segment of this program where a newcomer is matched with an experienced Canadian professional from the same field with the goal of assisting the newcomer overcomes several of the perceived barriers, within an encouraging and supportive environment.
