About the position

Our Food Market Assistant program is a weekly initiative designed to assist senior residents in with their shopping tasks at our indoor Food Market, located at 2353 Dufferin St. Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring a pleasant shopping experience by selecting quality products, organizing displays, conducting surveys, and helping clients with their inquiries and needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Setting up table’s signage, and distribution areas.
  • Unloading food boxes and supplies from the food truck and transporting them to the designated area.
  • Organizing food boxes and program materials.
  • Welcoming and assisting clients, including conducting a brief survey at the door.
  • Assisting clients with their shopping for fresh produce.

What you bring to the team

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting boxes (up to 30-50 lbs.), bending, and standing for 2-3 hours.
  • Reliable and dependable, with a commitment to showing up as scheduled.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with clients.
  • Positive and friendly attitude.
  • Basic knowledge of food handling.

 

Shift hours

  • Weekly shifts 4 Hours Per week (Flexible self-scheduling)

 

Screening Requirements

  • Sterling Backcheck or Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Reference Check
  • Minimum age of 16 (Applicants under the age of 18 must obtain parental consent.)

 

Training

  • Orientation to WoodGreen’s programs, policies, and procedures (Virtual)
  • Professional Development Training (In-person)

 

COVID-19 Precautions

  • WoodGreen provides volunteers with masks, sanitizer and face shields.
