Statement from WoodGreen’s Vice President of Community Care Unit, Dorothy Quon, on the Ontario government’s call for proposals for new Seniors Active Living Centres

Toronto, ON – WoodGreen Community Services applauds the Ontario government for expanding access to services for seniors by calling for proposals for new Seniors Active Living Centres (SALC) programs.

Seniors Active Living Centres create opportunities for seniors to connect, share experiences, and develop meaningful relationships with their peers, fostering a sense of belonging and reducing social isolation. WoodGreen offers SALC programs across six locations in Toronto, where seniors can enjoy recreational activities, educational workshops, cultural celebrations, outings, and more. Our trained instructors also support physical wellness through fall prevention and exercise classes for all activity levels. SALCs help seniors stay healthy, active and independent in their communities.

WoodGreen is also encouraged to see that in addition to the funding for new SALC programs, the majority of existing programs will also be receiving a maintenance and operating funding increase from $42,700 to up to $50,000 from the government’s $15 million investment last month.

WoodGreen looks forward to applying for the Request for Proposals and the opportunity to continue to scale our Senior Active Living Centre programs to enhance the overall quality of life for Toronto seniors by providing a supportive and stimulating environment that promotes physical, mental, and social well-being.
