Program Description

The Older Workers’ Initiative (OWI) aims to improve access to sustainable employment for job seekers aged 45 years or older who are on Ontario Works and have been unemployed for at least 1 year.

 

The program offers training and tools tailored to the needs of older workers, including:

  • Career counselling based on your experience, interests and capabilities
  • Pre-employment training to help you find employment that aligns with your goals
  • Resume writing and interview preparation
  • Basic computer skills training to navigate your job search and network online
  • Peer support to build confidence and improve communication skills
  • Financial assessment and retirement planning counselling

 

OWI is a full-time, six-week program that includes:

  • In-person class 2 days and one Online class per week for 6 weeks
  • 2 days per week are dedicated for Independent assignments, assessments and appointments
  • One-on-one employment counselling

 

Eligibility requirements

  • Age 45+
  • Ontario Works recipient
  • Unemployed for 1 year or more
  • You must be referred by your Ontario Works caseworker
